This issue causes so much distress and ill-feeling,
and I can understand how you feel. From your priest's point
of view, years of baptising babies who are never seen in church
again except perhaps for their wedding and funeral can be very
disheartening. It raises questions about what is Baptism, and
what does it mean when it's not accompanied by faith. Many priests
consequently don't baptise babies of non-churchgoing families.
Some insist at least one parent must come to Mass every week
for a certain period and attend a preparation course, before
their baby can be baptised. Fr Ed |
